Job Description: 

POSITION PURPOSE

This position is located at our TSM location in Menoken, ND.

This position is responsible for maintaining all TSM buildings and grounds including shops, substations, communication sites, warehouse, and right of way.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintain all buildings and grounds areas including maintenance shops, substations, communication sites, warehouse, and right of way; assist with the Menoken location as needed.
  • Performs vegetation management of right of way.
  • Perform soil sterilization.
  • Repair fences, gates, and surfacing.
  • Coordinate and perform building repairs and maintenance.
  • Develop and coordinate Periodic Maintenance activities for building systems.
  • Escort specialty contractors as required.
  • Operate commercial vehicles including tractor/trailers including transporting equipment and material for all TSM facilities and jobs.
  • Assist other trades as necessary.
  • Escort and perform work in energized substations, under energized transmission lines, and in active communication sites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED).
  • Pesticide Certification or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.  
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and the following endorsements:
    • Liquid or gaseous materials/tanker (N); and
    • Hazardous materials (H); or
    • Combination tanker/hazmat (X), which requires the successful completion of an FBI background check post-offer; and
    • No CDL restrictions other than a medical variance (V).
    • If the incumbent does not have a CDL, after six months in the position, the incumbent will be required to complete CDL theory, obtain a CDL permit, complete Behind the Wheel, and obtain a passing grade on the CDL test by the end of the first year of employment.
  • 21 years old.
  • Must be able to travel up to 75%.
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle under the DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems. This position may allow access to privileged information relating to such assets or systems. This position will be required to strictly adhere to all Basin Electric policies, procedures, and programs applicable to the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, occasional bending, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, reaching, crawling, walking on uneven surfaces, use of keyboard/computer, turning valves, shoveling, raking, climbing ladders, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Equipment used includes mowers, sprayers, aerial man lifts, all-terrain vehicles, skid-steers, tractors, pickups, straight trucks over 26,001 pounds, tractor/trailer combinations (semi), hydraulic tamps, drills, air operated tools, chain saws, and other associated equipment used in maintaining right of way, and building grounds of shops, substations, and communication sites. Finger dexterity, good color vision and hearing, and the ability to perform close work are required. Continuously working in areas of electrical risks (energized substations, transmission lines, active communication sites); frequently working in conditions of extreme heat or cold and dirt/dust; and occasionally around fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise. The incumbent will also be required to work at heights up to 75 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. Harness rating usually 300 lbs, including tools, clothing, and the individual.  Requires the ability to wear chemical and respiratory protective equipment when necessary. Must be respirator qualified.  
 

KEY SKILLS

  • Ability to weigh/measure, read, write, and perform basic arithmetic. 
  • May require working under pressure. 

 

Wage: $48.50 per hour
