POSITION PURPOSE
This position is located at Dakota Gasification Company in Beulah, ND.
This position is open to varying levels based on experience.
This position is responsible for providing entry-level design and drafting services by supporting the engineering department in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, industry standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the company’s facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provide basic design and drafting support for engineering projects, producing clear and accurate drawings and documentation under supervision.
- Assist with the preparation of engineering design packages to support installation and construction activities.
- Coordinate, with assistance, assigned project development, design, and construction with other departments and construction contractors. During project construction, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with quality control inspections, verifying design compliance, and checkout and commissioning.
- Provide drafting services as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
- Review drawings and specifications to check for conformance with design concepts and compliance with plant, industrial, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain working knowledge with ability to interpret all applicable codes, standards, rules, and regulations within the practicing disciplines.
- Under guidance, utilize engineering mathematics, technical references, and established industry standards, codes, rules, regulations, etc., to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Perform basic field verification for accuracy of existing plant drawings and assist with incorporating verified “As-Built” information.
- Provide appropriate specifications and standards consistent with the drawing purpose.
- Assist in evaluation of software and hardware products during testing and implementation for the Engineering department.
- Provide support during plant outages, as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in drafting & design technology, computer aided drafting (CAD), engineering technician, or a related construction industry program, and 4 years of related drafting experience; or
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 6 years of related drafting experience.
- A valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
This position requires frequent sitting; and occasional standing/walking, bending/reaching, climbing, kneeling, crawling, use of keyboard/computer, pushing/pulling up to 60 pounds, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. This position also requires finger dexterity, hand coordination, good hearing, and color vision. This position occasionally works in conditions of dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat/cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, and confined areas. The incumbent must be respirator qualified. The incumbent is required to be clean-shaven for respirator fit testing while assigned to work on a plant site. The incumbent may have to work at heights up to 600 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards, and access all areas of the plant site. The ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
KEY SKILLS
- Basic knowledge and understanding of engineering mathematics, drafting principles, and design practices.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and AutoDESK software.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze data/reports and conduct research; implement recommendations; develop plans, procedures, and goals; and present information to others.
- Ability to manage assigned tasks and meet deadlines.
