POSITION PURPOSE
This position is located at our Deer Creek Station in Elkton, SD.
Assists the Mechanical Technician in servicing, replacing, and performing mechanical repairs to plant equipment and welding repairs as assigned. The incumbent also assists with light machine work, and insulation removal and replacement. This position receives and maintains accurate plant inventory in the warehouse.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assist in maintaining and repairing all plant equipment, welding tasks, and ensure all tools and equipment are in good working condition.
- Assist in all outdoor yard and shop/grounds maintenance cleaning duties; including lawn, weed control, general cleanup, trash removal, snow, and ice removal, etc. as assigned by plant management.
- When necessary, perform duties in high and confined areas using scaffolding and catwalks.
- Perform minor painting of plant facilities and equipment.
- Performs the shipping, receiving, and materials handling for warehouse and general facilities, along with stocking various supply rooms, cabinets, dispensers, etc.
- Perform all duties in a safe, logical, and efficient manner in compliance with all safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Certificate of Completion in Mechanical Maintenance Technology, or Associate’s in Applied Science (AAS) in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance; or
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 6 months experience as an industrial mechanic helper; laborer, or warehouse assistant
- A valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
This position requires continuous standing; frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds; and occasional sitting, bending, climbing, kneeling, and crawling. This position is continuously exposed to dirt and dust; frequently exposed to extreme heat, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise; and hot to cold, poor ventilation, and electrical risks. The incumbent may be required to work in confined areas using scaffolding and catwalks and at heights up to 300 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. This position also requires finger dexterity, good vision and hearing, and the ability to perform close work. Equipment and tools operated include forklift, crane, hoist, come along, sling, jack hammer, machine cutting tools, drill press, hand tools, saw, drill, sander, impact wrench, and hydraulic, pneumatic, and measuring tools.
KEY SKILLS
- Ability to repair equipment under pressure due to time constraints (such as outages, etc.).
- Ability to communicate with supervisors and co-workers in both written and verbal forms.
- Knowledge of industrial mechanical equipment, machine shop tools and equipment; or inventory duties
