Job Description: 

POSITION PURPOSE

This position assists in the modeling, analyzing, quantifying, and reporting the technical, environmental, and economic conditions of Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s (BEPC) various commodities, short and midterm positions, electric load and renewable generation forecasts, and general commodity market intelligence. The incumbent will have a high level of understanding of these conditions and positions and will apply the principles accordingly. The incumbent provides support analysis and interacts with groups on various projects that require market transaction data, support for variable cost analysis, and support for short and mid-term sold/purchased power expenses. 
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist in analyzing and comparing Basin's diverse fleet of generating resources forecast performance with actual results and explain variances.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Basin Electric's on-going seasonal, annual, and long-term commodity position analysis.
  • Assist in compiling reports to evaluate portfolio performance by developing and applying an understanding of the technical and economic data attributable to participation in a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) and bilateral trading environment.
  • Learn the navigation and appropriate use of several different Energy Trade and Risk Management (ETRM) software systems, including, but not limited to, Allegro, PCI, and OATI.
  • Utilize understanding of the technical and economic data attributable to participation in a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) and bilateral trading environment to compile reports as necessary to evaluate portfolio performance.
  • Assist in the scheduling of daily and monthly load-related Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) financial schedules and load related Southwest Power Pool (SPP) bilateral schedules
  • Work with the Business Systems Analyst in developing, operating, modifying, and maintaining large production cost computer programs that simulate and model the operation of the Cooperative's system.
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and developing short-term and mid-term load and wind forecasts using the Itron MetrixIDR's advanced neural network and regression model specifications based on linear and non-linear interactions between load, weather, and calendar information.
  • Work with team to develop an understanding of the Cooperative’s member electric sales and various WAPA allocations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, economics, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • A valid driver’s license.
     

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and to move about the office building, occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, constant use of keyboard/computer and other office productivity machinery, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination.
