Job Description: 

POSITION PURPOSE

Assists engineers in the Civil/Structural Engineering section as they conduct engineering activities. Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Engineer, completes a variety of tasks in the field and in the office. This position typically works 40-50 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist with the design of earthwork, roads, and pavements, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and foundations.
  • Assist with the development of computer models.
  • Assist with the preparation of design drawings and specifications.
  • Assist with the review of shop drawings and submittals.
  • Assist with construction material tracking.
  • Assist with field construction observations such as rebar placement.
  • Perform field verification of existing and newly constructed as-built conditions and subsequent drawing updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Mechanical Engineering (EAC/ABET accredited) program with Sophomore year completed, or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous internship or relevant work experience.
  • Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.
     

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires frequent sitting, and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending/reaching, kneeling, lifting/carring up to 50 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position occasionally may work in conditions of dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat/cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, and confined areas. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. This position must be respirator qualified. Travel approximately 75% via motor vehicle or plane.
