Job Description: 

POSITION PURPOSE

This position is located at our Headquarters location in Bismarck, ND. 

This position is open to varying levels based on experience. 

Responsible for ensuring Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) and Dakota Gasification Company (DGC) is receiving optimal value for its resources in the energy sector.  Support the confirmation, reconciliation, and settlement of certain energy transactions related to natural gas agreements, renewable agreements, and wholesale power transactions for BEPC and DGC. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist with the checkout process of gas purchase and sales contracts to ensure accurate settlement of transactions.
  • Assist with the settlement of wind purchase power agreements with numerous counterparties such as validating curtailments and providing calculations for the counterparties to confirm.
  • Assist with the settlement of short-term transmission, energy and capacity transactions.
  • Complete monthly billing.
  • Investigate abnormalities in market activities to determine causes and develop solutions to resolve or improve market activities.
  • Support the development and expansion of data and systems related to Market analysis functions.
  • Project assignments and ad-hoc requests for data and analysis to support Energy Markets and reporting processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in a business, accounting/finance, or mathematics related field; or
  • An associate’s degree in business, accounting/finance or mathematics field; and 2 years of related experience. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the following: utility/energy industry; settlements; market trading using Energy Trading Risk Management (ETRM) systems; regulatory reporting or related commodity experience.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak.
