Job Description: 

POSITION PURPOSE

This position is located at our headquarters building in Bismarck, ND and is not a remote position. 

This position is open to varying levels based on experience. 

Assists with information system protection needs, system access, the security setup and configuration of Enterprise level servers, operating systems, and applications for Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) and its subsidiaries. Ensures the confidentiality and integrity of the company's information resources by protecting them against unauthorized modification, disclosure, and destruction. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist with system security administration on operating systems and applications, in accordance with the defined BEPC policies, standards, and procedures; industry best practices; and vendor guidelines. Assist with user authentication and authorization provisioning and de-provisioning.
  • Assign user roles and permissions. 
  • Assist with administration of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) systems and certificate management 
  • Assist with investigation of reported phishing and social engineering attempts and remediate threats 
  • Assist with the deployment, configuration, and monitoring of security systems and applications that perform reporting, auditing, and alerting functions for Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and host intrusion detection and prevention systems. 
  • Assist with the monitoring of security systems and applications that perform log gathering, log correlation, reporting, auditing, and alerting functions. 
  • Assist with provisioning new users, maintaining server and data security, performing anti-virus software systems management, and reporting.   
  • Assist with threat remediation and host intrusion alerts, including elimination of false positive alerting. 
  • Assist with investigation of reported phishing and social engineering attempts and remediate threats 
  • Assist with reviewing various security related logs, resolving operating system and software related security problems, and maintaining documentation, as required. 
  • Assist with reviewing vulnerability management reports, assisting with remediation plans, and documentation, as required. 
  • Assist with implementation of Cloud Security as directed by a more senior member of the team.   
  • Assist with Multifactor Authentication setup and maintenance. 
  • Assist with gathering approvals and assigning permissions for MISO, SPP, OATI, and other marketing and trading environments.  
  • Test and utilize automation scripts and tools as directed by a more senior member of the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/ Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) Computer Engineering or a related field; or  
  • Associate’s degree in Cyber Security or related field and 2 years of experience in computer and cyber system security experience; or 
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 4 years of related computer and cyber system security experience.  
  • A valid driver’s license.

This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems. This position may allow access to privileged information relating to such assets or systems. This position will be required to strictly adhere to all Basin Electric policies, procedures, and programs applicable to the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. 

KEY SKILLS

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. 
  • Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills; and effectively research and resolve problems.
