POSITION PURPOSE

This position is located at our Headquarters building in Bismarck, ND and is not a remote position.

This position coordinates the permitting of new resources for the Cooperative, as assigned. The incumbent will ensure all applicable environmental permits essential for construction authorization are obtained in a timely manner. Emphasis is placed on supporting National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review, Public Service Commission (PSC) application development and local permitting activities. This position also provides assistance with permitting and compliance activities related to existing generation resources, as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist the Environmental Project staff and directly support the project team in acquiring all necessary permits for new infrastructure in a timely and efficient manner. 
  • Assist the project team, as assigned, in all regulatory meetings, public hearings, and public forums associated with environmental permitting efforts for the Cooperative. 
  • Assist with guidance, strategies, and consultation to plant operations, environmental, and engineering staff for the implementation of environmental programs based on review and evaluation of new regulatory programs. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, geology, archaeology, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited engineering program, or environmental related field
  • 6 years of related engineering or technical experience, 2 of which are environmental
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Occasional travel may be required
     

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and to move about the office building, occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, constant use of keyboard/computer and other productivity machinery, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, cold, dirt/dust, chemicals, fumes, poor ventilation, vibration, electrical risks, and noise. This position must be respirator qualified. The incumbent will occasionally be required to work at heights up to 300 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. Inspections and testing of environmental areas require work in confined spaces. The incumbent uses small hand tools and testing equipment.
