POSITION PURPOSE
This position is located at Antelope Valley Station (AVS) in Beulah, ND.
This position is open internal only to AVS/LOS.
This position supports the maintenance and operating activities involved in the long-term operation of a large coal-based power plant. This includes outages, workweek planning and scheduling, projects, and corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Review all work, as originated, for details of problems. This requires working with all plant departments in establishing priority or urgency of work orders.
- Outline work scope detailing all required parts (ordering when required), multiple craft requirements, safety considerations, instruction manuals, or drawings where applicable.
- Assists maintenance supervisors and/or contractors to achieve timely work and quality while offering technical support or guidance.
- Fill in for absent maintenance supervisors (on a rotating basis) in the supervision of craft employees and refers issues to the regular supervisor for resolution.
- Make sure appropriate records are complete and filed for equipment history, safety records, or outside agency requirements when the job is completed.
- May utilize multiple external software applications (Excel, Access, Cognos, OSIsoft PI, Emerson EDS) in the research, planning of work, as well as reporting functions.
- Maintains a computerized asset management system for work updates, timely work schedules, progress information, completed projects, work histories, and issuing required reports. Prepare status, expense, or other related reports.
- Compares estimated work time to actual work time and investigates significant discrepancies. Relays finding to the applicable supervisor or manager for resolution.
- Reviews current preventative maintenance schedules and monitors equipment problems.
- Assembles work packages for outages and modification projects. Assist supervisors and craft persons when necessary.
- Administer maintenance program with particular emphasis on establishing work plan to affect operation/maintenance performance and efficiencies.
- Assist in-group coordination to establish a timely schedule for work completion.
- Provide insight for managing both annual, periodic and outage, and 10-year capital budget forecasts.
- Advise management on best policies and practices for coordinating resources to achieve maintenance goals and regularly keep management abreast on actionable solutions to planning issues.
- Interface with Work Management, Supply/Procurement, and Engineering to identify and resolve work package issues. Develop construction/maintenance procedures to facilitate and enhance work package development quality.
- Review current preventive maintenance schedules and work with the applicable supervisor for appropriate preventive maintenance programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma, or equivalent (GED or HSED).
- 5 years of power plant/industrial operation, maintenance, or related experience.
- Working knowledge of coal-based/industrial plant equipment and systems, and an understanding of coal-based plant maintenance processes and procedures.
- A valid driver’s license.
- This position may include occasional travel.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
This position requires frequent sitting, standing/walking; and occasional climbing, bending/reaching above and below shoulder level, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, crawling, and use of keyboard/computer. This position uses office and field equipment. Good vision and hearing, finger dexterity, hand coordination, the ability to perform close work, and the ability to speak are required for this position. The incumbent must be able to develop plans, achieve goals, present information to others. The incumbent also occasionally works in areas where they are exposed to dirt/dust, noise, chemicals, extreme heat/cold, vibration, poor ventilation, electrical risks, confined areas, and at heights up to 300 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. This position must be respirator qualified and able to operate a motor vehicle.
KEY SKILLS
- Able to troubleshoot plant process problems, and the ability to effectively plan and schedule maintenance activities.
- Proficient with personal computers.
- Able to analyze data/reports, conduct research, assist in implementation of recommendations, and occasionally supervise/evaluate the performance of others.
