Job Description: 

POSITION PURPOSE

Attends and operates systems and equipment related to coal handling and loading, waste disposal, yard maintenance, lime receiving, railway, and site drainage.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Perform routine maintenance on tools needed for daily use and keep equipment and work areas clean and orderly. 
  • Maintain adequate logs of all operating events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in operating the conveyor system for receiving, reclaiming, and transporting coal to the coalbunkers in the plant.
  • Operate and maintain the coal load out facility. Observe the operation of conveyors and related equipment and report any defects to the supervisor. Unload lime cars as required.
  • Request tagging from the Shift Supervisors; and place tags on appropriate switches or equipment for safe equipment maintenance or inspections.
  • Assist with snow removal around plant site. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 1 year of Power Generation, Thermal Plant, or related power plant experience; or
  • Certificate of Completion in Power or Process Plant Technology.
  • A valid driver's license. 
  • Travel may be required.
  • Successful completion of the Antelope Valley Station (AVS) Coalman qualification program and received experience proving proficiency to be classified as upgradeable (E qualified); or
  • Completion of the AVS Coalman qualification program within 90 days of hire.  

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires constant lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds; frequent standing/walking, lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds; and occasional bending/reaching, turning valves, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 30 pounds at AVS/ 75 pounds at LOS, crawling, and using foot controls. This position operates equipment and systems such as train load out facility, coal conveyor system, lime receiving, waste disposal/equipment, coal/yard maintenance associated equipment, forklifts, front end loaders, dumpster truck, vacuum truck, skid steer loader, and tractor. Tools used include air lances, impact wrenches, jackhammers, chipping hammers, and other miscellaneous hand tools. Finger dexterity, hand coordination, good color vision, good hearing, and the ability to speak are required. Over 50 percent of the incumbent's day is spent indoors around large industrial operating equipment. This position continuously operates machinery and works around dirt, dust, and noise; works frequently in the cold and around electrical risks; and occasionally works around fumes, chemicals, extreme heat, vibration, poor ventilation, and in confined areas. This position must be respirator qualified. The incumbent may also be required to work at heights up to 300 feet at AVS/ 100 feet at LOS, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards.
